Silversmiths really did have it’s heritage in silversmithing. So we’re working on devising clever ways in which we can pull on the heritage of metal working and marry it to an environment more conducive with a restaurant.

Each letter is hand drawn and deliberately printed small (on most occasions) to resemble a silver makers hallmark. All paper stocks and in-house selling tools such as the menus have been careful brought in line with an ex-industrial, vintage but modern tone. Rich bitter chocolate brown, classic brogue tan, and unbleached paper are key colours used through-out the scheme, and they do suit each other well. The thickness and texture of the stocks has also been something important to get right – certainly for those who appreciate a more tactile environment. Pick up, pocket and enjoy – welcome to the world of great print.

Summer Reigns Eternal – and it’s true to say that in Manchester it often feels that way! Enter The Oast House, a new venture to Spinningfields, Manchester – and a project that we have been working on with our client for many months. Collaborating with our illustrators we’ve created a handwritten alternate to the simple yet strong typeface used on the key note branding. Both Emma Smith’s and Manchester legend Daren Newman’s illustrations work incredibly well to give the client unique and brand led content which helps to define The Oast House against it’s other City centre rivals. Bold but with oversized dashes of nostalgic pub we give you The Oast House!

As part of a wider re-brand strategy we were asked to create a series of marques and logos for Blackhouse Restaurant. These could be used on menus, e-shot broadcasts, website and any other promotional print. Our ethos was to pull on the graphic heritage of traditional steak house branding, keeping in mind the context of the work appearing in contemporary restaurant units across the UK. These marques could be hot foiled, printed, letterpressed, or fire branded onto various media.

Mio Amore’s mini spa is an exclusive hideaway dedicated to the love of looking and feeling tiptop.

This boutique brand specialise in luxury treatments for ladies looking for a little glamour in their lives, daily grooming and pamper essentials for ladies who love to look and feel fabulous.

Illustrations provided by the fabulous and ever in vogue Esra Roise from her Oslo studio. Esra produced a short series of illustrations under the direction of 93ft. Our aim was to try capture some of the textures, colours and shapes produced when make-up-ing, so the dusty pinks, eye liner pencil grain and powder puff tones we think seal the deal on these hand drawn works. As part of the body of work produced for the salon include brochure, price lists, business and appointment cards, and to follow a Magento e-commerce store in collaboration with Dermalogica UK.

The Cerberus Beach House over looks one of the most spectacular bays – Half Moon Bay – just over 20km south of Melbourne, Victoria. And it is here where this brand begins, Australia!

Taking a lead from the name, and the inspiring attributes the indigenous landscape has to offer we devised the new brand around the legend that is … The Cerberus.

In the Bay itself rests HMVS Cerberus which was launched in 1868 and believe it or not was the first and most powerful of the modern day battleships. Built for the Victorian Navy this iron colossus formed part of the pre-Federation and old colonial navy. It’s a prized item in our collection of wonders down here on the bay and is brimming with accolades being the only monitor class warship left in the world. It’s revolutionary design dispensed completely with wind sails and was powered solely by steam powered engines that once roared inside the central superstructure now grounded approx three metre of water on the sands.

Where did the name Cerberus come from? Strange but true – it dates far back beyond the rule of Victorian wars and waves to a time when myths and legends reigned supreme.

Cerberus originates from Greek and Roman culture, and is the name for the loyal watchdog who guarded the gates of the ancient Greek underworld. The story goes that no living soul would be able to cross the river Styx (rather a strange coincidence considering its a dog watching the river) to the underworld and escape back across the river alive! The most famous account tells how Orpheus in his quest to capture the Cerberus lulled the great dog to sleep with poisoned honey-cakes while playing sleep inducing music. This was the twelfth and final labour of Heracles.

Taking inspiration from this, brand and design creatives 93ft, recaptured the Cerberus with the illustrative hand of International Artist, Tom Newell who is based out of London. Tom is a Dazed and Confused regular who also works for International Designer, John Richmond.

Coming soon to The Cerberus’ branded artillery – food menus, stationary and portfolio website.

See the Cerberus Beach House Project Overview for more information.

The brand and logo have been developed in house at The Chimney House by 93ft. We’ve started it with an open mind as to where it could go. The aim is to let other people who perhaps feel on the fringes of cycling, who are in some way interested, to those who are regularly riding but would like to be part of a cycling lifestyle option. The marque has been illustrated and developed by the fabulous hand of Tom Newell, master of the illustration featured on the 93ft Chimney in The Chimney House. For more information about joining La Squadra visit the website.

Brands aren’t just about logos, and some even say that logos are on their way out! That aside, 93ft are true believers that good brands should have plenty of powerful and dynamic content to their name. This library of brand elements help to break the monotony of the corporate world that so many brands find themselves in and consequently need reinventing out of. Illustrations bring the soul back into brands and these of the Jones and Co. team do just that – super personal, bold and bright, and capture a true spirit of the people in the picture.

93ft collaborated with top London illustrator and artist Mitchy Bwoy (currently enjoying a retrospective at the Sauce Gallery, Birmingham). Mitch’s work has become synonymous with new music and club culture, working alongside the most prominent musicians of the last decade, including Chase & Status, Amp Fiddler, Bugz in the Attic, Nitin Sawhney, Ziggy Marley, Howie B as well has having worked on many special projects, live paints and collaborations with other artists and designers.

These new master pieces will now be incorporated into the Jones and Co. branding, including personal business cards, an in store hall of fame and in online media.

Huge thanks again to Mitch!

Out on a Sunday stroll with a camera around Sheffield in late February. There’s still a fascinating number of factories still within a short walking distance of the main retail centre of Sheffield City Centre. Forgotten works with rusting signs we’re our main focus this time around, as we tried to capture the last of a declining industry before the developers move in for good. These rich and early pioneering environments are perfectly matched with The Chimney House branding, capturing a future sense of times past. We’ll keep adding to this photo collection, in the mean time more are available to view now at www.flickr.com/photos/thechimneyhouse, and on The Chimney House project overview.

Going back to their roots, we helped Nonnas identify a strategy for moving the brand forward, analysing their previous identity from their first incarnation, a hand written piece of script. Bringing it up to date and maintaining a strong sense of familiarity we’ve applied the logo to new applications such as this wax seal. Building content like this for any brand is critical, and using the accompanying statement ‘Importato Dall’ Italia’ reinforces Nonnas ties to Italian cooking, food and passion.

A modern icon of a historic building. Set on the banks of the Goit, The Chimney House with it’s 93ft chimney soaring into the skies needed no other depiction. As one of very few buildings on the Island, we were keen to include the ex industrial, now high class residential and heritage buildings surrounding The Chimney House – to help provide a context for the building. A bold and choicey range of colours play their role in defining a nostalgic yet modern feel to the brand.

Good words spread far, and some made it over the hill amidst the snow and ice to the City of Manchester. 93ft are currently in the middle of delivering a multi disciplinary design package, including re brand and new identity for this esteemed brand. Formerly Stuart Jones Styling Opticians – Jones and Co. is the new name in bespoke and luxury optics. Soon to arrive, a full stationary pack including business cards with hand drawn illustrated profiles from graphic mastermind Mitchy Bwoy, and letterheads and prescription cards printed on a range of off white heritage brand papers. Keep your eyes peeled (excuse the pun) for further developments of this brand as we unfold a new way finding scheme, and full interior design package coming to the King Street branch early Summer 2010.

‘Create me a logo that captures the hand crafted and bespoke nature of our fine wood doors and frames’. So we did. Identifying the wood plane as a symbol of traditional hand crafted joinery products, we referenced the seal shape to help validate and certify the brand name and quality of their products. A considered colour palette brings this marque current to trends referencing companies like Farrow and Ball. This new professional image has been rolled out on van livery, stationary, advertising, and website. More to come from here, as soon as it’s a nice sunny day, preferably hot!
